A-Amsterdam : is the capital and teh largest city in the Netherlands. The city has a population of 1,4 million.

B-Bitterbalen : quite simiar to the Kroket,these little snacks are often served on special events such as birthday,sports evens or during business meeting. Make sure you dip it in mustrad before eating.

C-Coffeshop : if you're serching for a hot,steaming coffee dont be fooled;coffee in Holland offer their costumers totally different. These coffeeshops will sell you (small) amounts of grass (in Bahasa we called GANJA!) and you can smoke a joint on the prmises.

D-Dutch Treat : being known as penny pinchers. The Dutch prefer to split the total bill at a restaurant and only pay their part.

E-Efteling : is Holland's largest theme park, with fairytales around evey corner.

F-FEBO : is a fast food chain of automatic restaurants,where you can buy your snack from a wall-mounted vending machine. So make sure you've got some coins on you!

G-Gay Marriage : the NL legalised gay marriage in 2001,making it a popular destination for gay couples due to the tolerant attitudes.

H-Heineken :This brand of beer is world famous and originated the Netherlands.

I-Ice skating : is a popular winter activity in Holland. Though the Dutch love to complain about cold weather,they will get their skates out and take to the ice.

J-Jonkie : This Dutch gin is a strong liquor made in Holland.

K-Kibbeling : consists of deep fried chunks and served with spesific sauces

L-Lekkerbek : is deep friend cod and literally means 'tasty beak'

M-Mayonaise :this emulsion of oil,vinegar,lemon juice and egg yolk is often served as a dipping sauce for fried or chips.

N-Nieuwjaarsdik : on 1 January,thousands of people take a dip in the icy sea at Scheveningen,to celebrate the start of the new year.

O-Orange : is the national colour of the Netherlands.

P-Prostitution : Holland is very open minded country and legal prostitution is not hard to find. Red Light Districs often touristic sight. Woman are displayed behind windows, where you can pick your favourite and negotiate the deal!

Q-Queen's Day:celebrates the birthday of the Dutch queen and is held on 30 April. Its not actually the birthday of the current Queen Beatrix, but her mother,Queen Juliana. The street and the people coloured orange and sell things on the street.

R-Rookworst : typical Dutch sausage while it literally means smoked sausage. Unox is also popular brand of rookworst.

S-Stamppot :is a mixture of boiled potatoesand vegetables topped with gravyand served together with meat such as rookworst.

T-Three Kisses : in most cultures its common to greet a friend with a kiss (or two). The Dutch however like to add one extra. These three kisses are actually air kisses,the lips should not touch the other person's cheek. Oh, and to avoid akward situations : men dont kiss each other!

U-Unox : this consumer product brand is presented as something typically Dutch (see rookworst for more info)

V-VOC : was a chartered company established in 1602. THe VOC representatives used violent methods to gain respect from the native population.

W-Water management : since large parts of the Netherlands are below sea level, the Dutch have become very inventive when it comes to keeping the water out.

X-XXX :when you ask a Dutch person what XXX means, they will propably say three kisses. It is quite similar to the American XOXO (hugs and kisses.

Y-Yiddish :many words from Amsterdam dialect originate from Yiddish language. Before World War II, Amsterdam was home to a large group of Jews whose mother tangue was Yiddish.

Z-Zwarte Piet : Sinterklaas's comapanions are love by children
